DeLorean designer has some thoughts on Tesla's Cybertruck : NPR

Some commentators believe this marks a complete shelving of the Model 2 plan. The vehicle would have required a move away from the traditional assembly lines. In a call with investors, the Tesla boss Elon Musk clarified that this would probably mean production starting “by early 2025, if not late this year”. It’s important to be detail-oriented and truly care about the craft, just as much as being humble and friendly.

Ten years later, in 2018, Model-3  by Tesla was named the world’s best-selling plug-in electric car for the year. The Model 3 has been due for a refresh, remaining mostly-unchanged since its original release in 2017. I've probably talked to car designers more than I've talked to anyone else in the automotive profession.

Tesla shares under pressure after carmaker announces price cuts

To a one, they're impressive, but von Holzhausen is at another level. And regardless, Tesla had to start selling a more versatile lineup of vehicles. While a snazzy two-seater was fun to drive and thrilling to look at — more so when you realized you were running only on electrons — people wanted to buy sedans and SUVs. The company had to first create an exciting electric car that would change the impressions that EVs were glorified golf carts. That car would be sold at a high price to early adopters and fans of high-performance, exotic sports cars.

The real success of the company lies in the fact that they do not stop innovating once they reach their goals. They keep trying new ways which can prove to be beneficial for the customers. Before the 2019 event, Musk had given glimpses of various Cybertruck design influences, attributing inspiration to films like Bladerunner and The Spy Who Loved Me, where vehicles showcased sharply angled fronts and wedge shapes. Led by Franz Von Holzhausen, Tesla takes design innovation up a notch.

Tesla Cybertruck launched and now in showrooms

The new 8-inch screen includes access to adjustable climate controls, music, or even entertainment apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Disney Plus. As Tesla continues to move forward, he'll be even more admired for his unique ideas not just about what cars should look like, but how they should make our lives better. With efficiency, von Holzhausen had a concept that could inform not just the design of the Model S sedan but also the entire, evolving Tesla brand. I recently got the chance to speak with von Holzhausen and he shared some details about how he came to join Tesla and what guides his design philosophy.

Top 9 Design Thinking Books in 2024

They are even moving into other forms of design, as they recently launched their own branded tequila which comes in a specially designed bottle shaped like a lightning bolt—a symbol for the company’s electric cars. It is a hand-blown glass bottle that comes with an angular metal stand that holds the tip of the bottle. Tesla has just announced the first major redesign of the Model S since it launched the electric sedan in 2012. It capitalised on its disruptive technology that moves away from traditional norms, slowly but surely gaining its success and making its way to replace the prevalent mainstream market. When von Holzhausen joined Tesla in 2008, the company was contending with a near-bankruptcy.

Though many designers criticise their interface, it is one of the first cars to introduce features that make driving a little more comfortable and lighter. They look at developing software functionality every few weeks allowing the user to enjoy variability indulging a more tech-savvy generation and making an impression that is valued more socially. The new Model S starts at $79,990 for a “Long Range” dual-motor version that gets 412 miles of range. Or people can spend $119,000 for one with the new, more powerful “Plaid” powertrain that goes 390 miles with that sub-2 second 0–60 time.

More efficiency = more range

Even my early Model 3 (VIN ~2500) has been mostly free of problems (except for the stinky feet air conditioning issue – it remains to be seen if Tesla has finally solved this with Highland, but we sure hope they have). Tesla says that the refreshed Model 3 will have longer range, rated at 344 miles WLTP for the SR RWD version, and 421 miles WLTP for the LR, both with 18″ aero wheels. These numbers are an 11-12% improvement from WLTP ratings for the current Model 3. To be honest, although it looks spectacular, it isn't always as functional as what you experience in vehicles that have retained knobs, switches, and buttons.

On Tuesday, the company’s share price shot up by 12% after an update revealed the carmaker was hoping to accelerate the production of lower-priced EVs, with production of the first cars beginning as early as this year. Yes, Tesla has been in the process of building vehicles that have self-driving capabilities, and these cars are being put through rigorous testing to ensure ultimate safety. At present, Tesla’s sedans are at a Level 2 out of the Level 5 autonomy, where the cars still require manual interventions during their operation.

tesla design

A lot of experts figured Tesla would be out of business in a few years, as the cost of launching new vehicles killed the company. The new Model S has some light updates to the exterior of the car, including a standard large glass roof, but the biggest visual change is inside. Tesla has axed the portrait touchscreen in favor of one more like what’s found in the Model 3 and Model Y, though with far smaller bezels (like we’ve seen on the Cybertruck prototype). There’s also a stalkless U-shaped butterfly steering wheel, much like what we’ve seen in the forthcoming second-generation Roadster, and a screen behind the center console for rear-seat passengers. Unlike the Model 3 and Model Y, the new Model S still features a screen behind the steering wheel. Von Holzhausen gets to envision the future on its own terms — gorgeous electric cars that will someday be able to drive themselves.

Franz, my boss and the head of design, always says that we each have our homework, but if we want to branch out and collaborate with other teams it’s very encouraged. We also like to dabble in creative technologies and come up with some crazy ideas. "I don't want to judge the Cybertruck as beautiful or ugly. It certainly has its admirers who want a vehicle to stand out," Giugiaro told NPR. This style was mastered in the 1970s in what Giugiaro called an "architectural exercise that resembles a modern Miami or San Francisco 'chalet,' almost a provocation." The stage was enveloped in artificial smoke as the truck made its entrance, accompanied by the resonating beats of music from loudspeakers. Along the edges, pyrotechnic flames ascended while the vehicle came to a halt before a graffiti-style Cybertruck graphic, starkly depicted in black and white.

Da Long Yi is a Sichuan hot pot chain from the city of Chengdu that specializes in a three broth hot pot experience that includes a lighter, non-spicy mushroom broth, a non-spicy tomato broth, and its signature red hot broth. The signature broth is made with dozens of herbs, chile peppers, and peppercorns that have been sourced from different Chinese provinces and fried in beef tallow. Dun Huang pulls eight different shapes of noodles, from extra-thin angel hair to extra-wide belts. Don’t forget to order a deep-fried flatbread marinated in cumin, Sichuan peppercorn, and dry chile oil.

The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. In 2020, federal courts blocked an executive order issued by then-President Trump to ban TikTok after the company sued on the grounds that the order violated free speech and due process rights. His administration brokered a deal that would have had U.S. corporations Oracle and Walmart take a large stake in TikTok. The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The House has passed legislation that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away any time soon. Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech.

Since opening in 2019, Steep LA evolved into a daytime casual teahouse for grab-and-go Chinese tea drinks that can include a festive sit-down kung fu tea ceremony. At night, cocktails are made with tea-infused spirits, that accompany small plates with dried shiitake mushrooms and shrimp umami platters, and braised pork bowls with rice and truffle shavings. A family with Chinatown roots took over Plum Tree Inn when it closed in 2020 and revamped it as Broadway Cuisine in 2021. The 6,000-square-foot restaurant has old-school Chinese dining palace vibes with an expansive menu featuring dishes like egg foo young, Peking duck, and moo shu pork. MLBB makes its Sichuan-style dipping sauce using a dried powder mix of minced chile and chopped peanuts.

She ends up leaving student protesters and the faculty who support them feeling betrayed and pushes a campus that was already on edge into a full blown crisis. But also, as the winter wears on, all the same intense protests just continue unabated. This is a university that has both one of the largest Jewish student populations of any of its peers. But it also has a large Arab and Muslim student population, a big Middle Eastern studies program.

For some, TikTok is a path to riches and the American dream. With a ban, it could all disappear

Jade green awnings and neon signs went up, and soon, imperial roof structures topped every building. Since then, this New Chinatown has starred in big Hollywood movies like Rush Hour, I Love You Man, and Beverly Hills Ninja, among many others. Kim Ky has been an institution in the San Gabriel Valley for decades, with multiple restaurants spanning even to Orange County. This popular Chiu Chow restaurant boasts a menu that rivals the Cheesecake Factory’s. A photographer was among those arrested during clashes between protesters and law enforcement on the University of Texas at Austin campus on Wednesday.

When the legendary Golden City closed about a decade ago, Full Moon House took over its space on N. Besides the hanging LED icicles and brand-new orange napkins, the dining room looks nearly identical to its past self. Paper dragons fly over the space and there are red lanterns wherever you look, making it one of the more festive places in the neighborhood to grab a meal.

Well, I don’t think it’s just limited to college campuses. We have seen intense feelings about this conflict play out in Hollywood. We’ve seen them in our politics in all kinds of interesting ways. That reality, that taking a different tack that was supposed to be full of learnings and lessons from the stumbles of her peers, the fact that didn’t really work suggests that there’s something really intractable going on here.

In recent years, some upscale new places have opened serving some of the highest-end Chinese food in the U.S., though there is still a wealth of reasonably-priced strip mall finds from Alhambra and Rowland Heights. The San Gabriel Valley in particular boasts some of the strongest regional Chinese restaurants anywhere, so it’s worth digging deep and searching out those small mom-and-pop spots hidden away in food courts or behind the main streets. Here now, are 25 of the essential Chinese restaurants in Los Angeles. And now these schools only have a week or two left of classes. We don’t know if students are going to leave campus for the summer.

And set up an encampment in the middle of campus, no matter what the rules say. So students who aren’t feeling safe in this protest environment don’t necessarily have to go to class. The problem with that is that, over the weekend, a series of images start to emerge from on campus and just off of it of some really troubling anti-Semitic episodes. In one case, a guy holds up a poster in the middle of campus and points it towards a group of Jewish students who are counter protesting. Nick, Isabella Ramírez just walked us through what this has all looked like from the perspective of a Columbia student. And from what she could tell, the crackdown ordered by President Shafik did not quell much of anything.

So these students in real-time are beginning to test some of the things that Columbia’s president has just said before Congress. This is “The Daily.” Today, the story of how Columbia University has become the epicenter of a growing showdown between student protesters, college administrators, and Congress over the war in Gaza and the limits of free speech. “A lot of these regional malls are rebranding their spaces to attract restaurants,” Kim said. Gen Korean BBQ is an example of one of the new breed of restaurants growing in malls. There’s a new guard in malls,” said Chris Simms, the CEO and founder of Lazy Dog, which has around 50 ski lodge-themed restaurants around the country.

And there was no clearer embodiment of that than what had happened that morning just as President Shafik was going to testify before Congress. And it’s a university on top of all that that has a real history of activism dating back to the 1960s. So when students are recruited or choose to come to Columbia, they’re actively opting into a campus that prides itself on being an activist community. They consider the city and the world, really, like a classroom to Columbia. “Traditional mall restaurants were casual dining chains like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, and quick-service restaurants in food courts.

There are three locations, and the newest in San Gabriel offers the most extensive menu of the three. Though it’s known for its Cantonese barbecue, Auntie Kitchen even offers the Hainan chicken rice. That dish comes with complimentary soup, and portions are generous while prices remain reasonable. T-Kebob is a Chinese barbecue skewer restaurant with a Korean twist. Open late until midnight, it offers a vast variety of meats, vegetables, seafood, and carbs to choose from.

TikTok has lobbied hard against the legislation, pushing the app’s 170 million U.S. users — many of whom are young — to call Congress and voice opposition. But the ferocity of the pushback angered lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where there is broad concern about Chinese threats to the U.S. and where few members use the platform themselves. Legal challenges could extend that timeline even further. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try to block the law if it passes, arguing it would deprive the app’s millions of users of their 1st Amendment rights.

The five flavors include fragrant, spicy, sweet, sour, and umami. Auntie Kitchen also serves roast pork, barbecue pork, roast duck, and soy sauce chicken. Malubianbian, which hails from Chengdu, serves skewer-style hot pot.

The broth is made by simmering beef tallow, green Sichuan pepper, red Sichuan pepper, and a variety of other peppers for more than four hours. The dipping sauce suggested for the Sichuan broth is the crushed garlic and sesame oil dip. Open since 1982, Kim Chuy is a Chinatown staple and one of the best places in Los Angeles to find Chiu Chow-style noodle soups. The classic Chaoshan dish (developed in the eastern part of China’s Guangdong province) includes a base of egg noodles and thin rice noodles, a delicate broth, and various meats, seafood, and Chinese vegetables. You’ll find nearly 30 variations of the dish here, including ones made with fried wontons, pork offal, and salted duck.

The restaurant sources wagyu from its own cattle farm and ships a whole cow daily to ensure the freshest sashimi, meatballs, and more. Other noteworthy dishes comprise Sichuan-style beef short ribs, slow-cooked for 48 hours; Shanghainese sautéed eel, air-dried for 48 hours before cooking for another four; and cold Shanghai-style river shrimp. Diners can indulge in Buddha Jumps Over the Wall soup, a specialty demanding meticulous preparation, incorporating a lavish set of 20 to 30 ingredients. Angelenos quickly took notice of the restaurant’s fiery Sichuan cooking. One of the restaurant’s signature dishes is the diced rabbit with “younger sister’s secret recipe.” Other must-try dishes include the Sichuan-style mung bean jelly noodles with chile sauce, mapo tofu, and toothpick lamb with cumin. There’s an additional location in Rowland Heights for those who reside further east. Miàn, the Chengdu Taste offshoot, specializes in Chongqing-style noodles like zhajiangmian — hand-pulled wheat noodles tossed in fermented bean sauce, ground pork, and vegetables. Other specialities include its Huaxing noodles with fried egg in tomato broth, Chengdu hot-and-sour noodles, and beef pickle noodles in green Sichuan pepper soup.

For those aforementioned big groups/families, Hop Li also offers a prolific banquet menu, a special prix-fixe assortment perfect for special occasions or single people in need of an easy meal-prepping solution. Customers can watch the noodle master pull eight different shapes, while throwing the strands over their shoulder and into a pot of boiling water. Lan sources local beef to make a broth that is simmered for 10 hours every day and topped with house-made chile oil. The restaurant recently expanded to West Hollywood as well. Other popular dishes include Shanghainese eel, loofa, drunken chicken, Shanghainese stir-fried rice cake with crab, and green onion scallion noodles.

Other buildings on the campus in Arcata are at risk of being occupied, and protesters “have shown a willingness” to lock themselves in facilities and steal equipment, the officials said. House Speaker Mike Johnson called Wednesday for the resignation of the university’s president if she can't "bring order to this chaos." The university closed its campus Wednesday evening as LAPD began arresting demonstrators. At one point during the demonstrations, tensions escalated as protesters refused to relocate and remove their tents and other prohibited items, a university official said. "The university is a private campus and the group had been violating some of their orders. It was a trespass at that point and we assisted with the arrests," Los Angeles Police Captain Kelly Muniz said during a briefing.

The restaurant was inspired by cooking during the pandemic and popups. It includes some sandwiches that are as creative as the name of the restaurant. Nicholas Fandos, who covers New York politics and government for The Times, walks us through the intense week at the university. And Isabella Ramírez, the editor in chief of Columbia’s undergraduate newspaper, explains what it has all looked like to a student on campus.

They’ve been at it for over 15 years, where locals can purchase reasonably priced and delicious Vietnamese sandwiches from 7 a.m. On Broadway just north of Cesar Chavez, Soulo’s Kitchen prepares — you guessed it — soul food. Soulo’s is all about the classics like the outstanding oxtails over rice, turkey chops with rice and gravy, and some of the city’s best mac and cheese. The Los Angeles Police Department arrested approximately 50 protestors at the University of Southern California after campus police gave a dispersal order to demonstrators, according to a CNN crew at the scene. The university "supports free speech through open dialogue that is respectful and constructive," the officials said.

And from the administration’s perspective, they say, well, yeah, you can say that and you can think that. Or though you may have good intentions, you’re saying things that you don’t realize the implications of. Or they’re grinding our classes to a halt and we’re not able to function as a University. But there are also communities that rely on people being able to trust each other and being able to carry out their classes and their academic endeavors as a collective so they can learn from one another.

The restaurant has a cult following and over 1,000 stores around the world. MLBB — as it’s often abbreviated — only serves its signature soup base, which contains 19 herbs and is topped with an additional dose of chile, onions, and sesame oil. Even its mild variety is considered spicy for the average person not from Chengdu. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the spicy broth and equally spicy chile dipping sauce. Tai Ping Sa Choi Kee is a Guangzhou-based chain specializing in beef brisket noodle soup as well as other Cantonese fare.

And these encampments have now started cropping up at universities from coast-to-coast, at Harvard and Yale, but also at University of California, at the University of Texas, at smaller campuses in between. And at each of these institutions, there’s presidents and deans, just like President Shafik at Columbia, who are facing a really difficult set of choices. The University of Texas in Austin this afternoon, we saw protesters physically clashing with police. You have faculty, including professors, who are not necessarily sympathetic to the protesters’ view of the war, who are really outraged about what Shafik has done here. They feel that she’s crossed a boundary that hasn’t been crossed on Columbia’s campus in a really long time. But back on campus, some of the students and faculty who had been watching the hearing came away with a very different set of conclusions.

In Sichuan, pork ribs are traditionally smoked with cypress boughs, but at Sichuan Impression, the pork ribs are marinated with green tea. The ribs are also marinated with dry chiles, scallion, and minced peanuts before being smoked. The end result is a rack of barbecue ribs whose meat falls off the bone. Perhaps the most famous traditional hot pot chain from China is Hai Di Lao. Although it has many different broths to choose from, like vegetarian mushroom or tomato, the most popular flavor is its signature Sichuan-style broth.

Since then, the Cantonese restaurant has obviously expanded, first into a larger space in the building, then to its current location across the street. Focus on the chicken egg foo young, a Guangdong-style omelet that comes with bean sprouts and a thick mushroom gravy, or combination wonton soup. Eat Joy Food is part mini-mart and part Taiwanese restaurant. It uses quality seasonal ingredients, many of which are seafood, and offers plenty of vegetarian dishes. The menu is large and filled with specialties that rotate regularly.

Everyday Backpack V1

Yes, the 30L Peak Design Travel Backpack is internationally carry-on sized. The LOVENOOK backpack comes in eight colors and is sure to fit everything you need for a weekend away. The way this backpack opens makes packing and unpacking quick and easy, especially if you don’t have TSA Pre-Check and need to take things out at security.

Travel Duffelpack 65L

There’s also an optional hip belt if you need a more secure way to carry the bag. Underneath the main back panel, there’s a small pass-through that’s lined with loop and hook fasteners. We don’t have the hip belt accessory on hand to test, but honestly, we didn’t find a need for it. One scenario where it could prove useful is if you’re taking the Travel Backpack while biking; we tend to get move-y when we’re cycling uphill. If a certain type of bag works for you, that's great.

Everyday Case for iPhone 13 Pro Max

Lucky for you, Peak Design sent me their 30L travel backpack to try out. This versatile bag has caught the attention of travelers worldwide with its sleek design and impressive features. We aren’t kidding when we say this pocket is easy to forget (though we recommend keeping better track of your passport). Each side flap opens up to reveal some simple, solid organization.

Size Guide

Hand strap designed specifically for mirrorless cameras. Protective, easy-access photo/video gear organizers for travel. Ultralight packable tote bag for everyday and travel.

Everyday Case for iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apart from the looks, the Travel Backpack 30L’s robust build and structuredness still feel very confidence-inspiring. Aluminum hardware adds a nice premium touch whenever you adjust or fiddle with the bag. Additionally, bits of Hypalon are scattered around, most notably around the main compartment’s zipper pulls, making them nice and grabbable. I tried some of the more hiking oriented backpacks such as the Shimoda Explore 30L and still have a 60L in my closet. They're somewhat more comfortable but the difference isn't huge for this 30L size.

This comes primarily from the bag’s internal organization system. Like most camera bags, you can rearrange its innards using velcro dividers. But Peak Design’s "origami-inspired" FlexFold dividers allow you to alter their shape without having to un- and re-velcro them into different configurations. You can flip small panels up or down to create sub-sections or pass-throughs.

I personally like a small sling bag when taking short walks or when I'm in and out of my car frequently. I'm just saying that photographers should expand their horizons when considering which bag to buy and not limit themselves to what the camera store or camera bag company is selling. More comfortable bags with more useful features are out there. I’ve done a lot of hiking with a GoRuck Echo rucksack.

Regardless, there is plenty of space, plus there are pockets all around in case you need more granular organization. One tradeoff with this clamshell opening is that you need to have the bag laid down to open it. This, in turn, makes it tricky to access the front compartment. Not really a huge deal; it just means we have to access the front and main compartments independently and not at the same time. You can also put it inside the zippered pocket at the front side of the compartment. However, this pocket is really more for accessories like dongles, adapters, thumb drives, and, yes, memory cards.

But they’re definitely there, and they can hold a bottle firmly thanks to some built-in elastic and gusseted sides. Sling bag perfectly sized for light everyday and photo carry. See Features below, or check out exact dimensions.Check out the standard Everyday Backpack for more internal/external capacity, expandability, and organization. Moment's T-series lenses are well-built, offering the look and feel of a premium product. But with high-end smartphone cameras getting so good, can they still up your photo game?

I put a camera cube at teh very top, with acces to my lenses using the top flap, everything kept tidy. And I use the lower sections for my camera bodies and larger lenses, accessories in the side pockets. In its stock form, there is some room for improvements.

But they’re popular for more than just amazing designs. They are also a brand that’s aware of their environmental impact, choosing every material thoughtfully. Spoiler alert, this bag’s sleek exterior design is going to get you a lot of compliments at the airport. Understanding the legal consequences for individuals involved in trap houses is crucial. This section will outline the legal penalties and repercussions of operating such establishments. This section will explore the varied settings where trap houses can be found, from inner-city neighbourhoods to suburban areas. Beyond their legal implications, trap houses have left an indelible mark on pop culture, influencing music, fashion, and language.

First cargo ship passes Baltimore Key bridge wreck via temporary channel after being trapped for weeks

Social media posts of kids holding bundles of money in trap houses are geared towards glamorizing the lifestyle—and sucking in recruits in the process. It’s also worth noting that some of the tactics used to manipulate and blackmail the young people are cringe-worthy. Raids of trap houses often show teenagers living in inhumane conditions after being forced to cut and sell illegal drugs.

Have Trap Houses Contributed to the Ongoing Drug Epidemic?

During the course of his investigation, Sussi said it didn’t take him long to understand why it’s a challenge for cops like Agent Emery to stop drug dealers. Ask around, and people will tell you that it’s possible to make it out of the trap. You have the power to choose to break free from the cycle of abuse and addiction.

Tent communities are sometimes a way for those still using drugs to find a place with a certain level of security. Tent community spaces often have rules that involve a form of contribution to the community to remain in this transitional space. Those in the community are often allowed to continue drug and alcohol abuse, but not on the premises. Five vessels that have been trapped in the harbor for nearly a month with no way out are expected to finally leave through the new channel over the next few days before officials close it Monday or Tuesday. A cargo ship trapped in Baltimore’s harbor for weeks after the Francis Scott Key Memorial Bridge collapsed last month was finally freed Thursday as it became the first vessel to pass the wreckage via a new deep-water channel. Family members also confirmed two children, are on life support and brain dead.

"We knew this was going to be a significant weather event days in advance. Where is the planning? Continuity? This is an epic failure of our local government," she said on Facebook. "Good thing is, us 'mountain folk' are strong and will continue to take care of each other." Roof collapses caused by the weight of the snow were reported, one of them at a grocery store in the community of Crestline, where resident Cierra Lavarias said her family was stranded for nearly two weeks. Highways were closed to all but emergency vehicles until this week, frustrating residents who had been away when the storm hit and were prohibited from heading back up to their homes. Preliminary findings suggest only one of the deaths, in a car accident, was directly related to the storm. Other victims included people with extensive medical histories or chronic conditions, Shannon Dicus, the county sheriff and coroner, said in a statement.

The family said the children are expected to be removed from life support in the coming days. Using seismic detection equipment and technical search cameras, they were able to help pinpoint the dog’s location and a second tunnel was dug under the property’s kitchen. Another strong storm dumped more snow Saturday on Northern California mountain communities, and a winter storm warning was in effect through early Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento. The commercial debut single, called "Icy" was released as the lead single from the album on April 13, 2005. The song features guest appearances from fellow American rapper Young Jeezy, and American hip hop recording artist Boo, with production by Zaytoven.

While the terms may seem similar at first glance, there are notable distinctions. A trap house usually refers to a headquarters for organized drug operations, encompassing various substances. On the other hand, a crack house specifically caters to the consumption and distribution of crack cocaine. It’s not just any old drug den; it’s the headquarters of a well-organized drug operation. Picture it as a strategic hub where illicit activities, especially drug dealing, take place.

One raid saved a disabled man and his carer from a gang, and another rescued three 16-year-olds. Those whose homes are taken over are often vulnerable people with addictions, mental health issues and disabilities who are sometimes later brutally murdered. Understanding the root causes of trap houses is essential for sustainable change.

The song features a guest appearance from a female rapper Mac Bree-Z, with production by Nitti. The single was also included on Gucci Mane's second album Hard to Kill (2006). San Bernardino County authorities said so much snow fell that it exceeded the ability of plows to clear roads, requiring earth-moving equipment and dump trucks to pick up and move snow. Well, my friend, this term gained fame in the rap world thanks to Fetty Wap’s catchy track. In slang, a trap queen symbolizes a strong, independent, and loyal woman who rules her domain with confidence and pride.

She said she had three boxes of protein bars, two swordfish steaks, four lean pork chops, three frozen Lean Cuisine dinners and is down to tap water. She said that while the street in front of her cabin was plowed, the plowing created a 12-foot snow berm that is blocking her driveway, where her car is covered in snow. The album's fifth and final single, "That's All" was released on December 7, 2005. The album's title track, "Trap House" was released as the album's fourth single on November 22, 2005.

The next day, Compton checked outages in Avenatti’s neighborhood and saw that her great aunt, who lived alone, had most likely lost power again. "I'm now worried about the snow on my roof," she said, referring to a new storm system that could bring warm rain and the threat of floods and mudslides. "Nobody expected that much snow," said Valli Bryan Compton, whose great aunt, Elinor "Dolly" Avenatti, 93, was found dead Monday in her home in Crestline by a concerned neighbor who was checking on her.

Drug houses shelter drug users and provide a place for drug dealers to supply them. Drug houses can also be used as laboratories to synthesize (cook) drugs, or cache ingredients and product. With the glamorization of trap music and the ongoing drug overdose epidemic, it’s only logical for parents to be concerned about their children’s wellbeing.

As of 2021, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health showed that 40 million individuals used an illicit drug in the past year. Some of the most commonly used drugs include meth, cocaine, marijuana, and heroin. These are commonly distributed drugs within trap houses, increasing the significance of understanding trap houses. In this scenario, those who abuse drugs have a known location to go to acquire their preferred drug of choice. This results in individuals frequently coming and leaving the trap house, causing a constant flow of people bringing in unknown substances. Trap houses are often located in low-income areas and, as stated above, are usually abandoned homes.

The 2017 NSDUH shows that roughly 966,000 Americans above 12 years struggled with the negative effects of cocaine. The good news is that over 600,000 people sought treatment for their cocaine use disorder in the same year. Although the high rate of cocaine addicts seeking rehabilitation is a welcomed trend, we can’t ignore the role of trap houses in spreading the vice. Interestingly, over half of all illicit drug trafficking cases are attributed to a handful of drugs. According to the American Addictions Centers, the top 5 most trafficked drugs as of 2016 are meth (33.6%), cocaine (19.8%), marijuana (17.6%), and Heroin (14.4%).

Trap houses can also be used to synthesize drugs or store products and ingredients. Tash told Sussi they rarely stay in one “trap house” for more than a week. A drug house (also known as a drug den, crack house, shooting gallery, trap house, or bando)[1] is a residence used in the illegal drug trade.

A rehab center such as Revive Recovery can leverage some of the best medical practices to improve your quality of life. As law enforcement agencies work to curb the trap house menace, the best we can do as a rehab center is to help addicts recover and improve their wellbeing. Also known as a drug house or crack house, trap houses are usually abandoned and shelter drug users.

Believe it or not, the term “trap house” has its roots in the world of drug culture. In the 1980s and 1990s, drug dealers would set up shop in abandoned or run-down houses, which became known as trap houses. These locations became notorious for their illegal activities, as they were used for the production, storage, and distribution of drugs. People with drug addiction problems should seek medical help immediately. Whether you’re addicted—or you know someone who is addicted—to heroin, cocaine, meth, crack, marijuana, or prescription drugs, keep in mind that recovery is attainable.

What is a “Trap House”?

The album's third single, "Money Don't Matter" was released on September 13, 2005. The song features a guest appearance from female American recording artist Torica, with production by Nitti. Alicia Victoria Lozano is a California-based reporter for NBC News focusing on climate change, wildfires and the changing politics of drug laws.

Until this year, the most snow recorded in seven days there was 58 inches in 1979. The extreme weather prompted Gov. Gavin Newsom to declare emergencies in 13 of California’s 58 counties, beginning March 1. Both ranges routinely get winter snow, but what looked like the foundation for epic downhill ski days instead became a nightmare for Compton and her family. Lee estimated she called a county emergency hotline at least six times asking for help. Crestline resident Terri Lee said she was snowed in for 14 days and in danger of running out of lifesaving medication for congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.

This section will explore law enforcement's challenges in tackling these establishments and the legal repercussions for those involved. If you or a loved one are struggling in a trap house or with drug addiction, contact us today to learn more about our treatment programs. The weather took a turn for the worse late last month as an arctic air mass plunged down the West Coast, prompting a rare blizzard warning. Bando, my friend, is a term you often hear in rap songs, painting a picture of the gritty, raw side of the streets. It refers to an abandoned or run-down building, typically used for illicit activities.

The substance is appealing to users due to its intensely euphoric high, rapid-onset, and the relatively inexpensive production process. Did you know that efforts relating to mitigating the spread and impact of illicit drugs, alcohol, and tobacco take up $740 billion of taxpayers’ money every year? Additionally, the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) notes that illicit drugs are responsible for 38% of the nearly 20 million cases of substance abuse disorders in the United States. To give you an overview of the urgency of the matter, an article appearing in theJournal of the American Medical Association(JAMA) notes that cases of opioid overdose deaths in the U.S. have tripled from 2000 to 2015. The increase in drug overdose deaths is so dramatic that it’s actually the main cause of injury-related deaths.

However, the law was later criticized as racist because it involved longer prison stays for crack cocaine offenses versus powdered cocaine, and crack cocaine is used more often in the African-American community. The United States has been battling drug abuse problems since the 1970s, and things have only gotten worse as the years have gone on despite laws being passed. Now the US has been battling a terrible opioid epidemic going on for the last 20 or more years. Unfortunately, this country has to continue to fight this war as lives continue to be taken every day.

Exclusive: Police Are Busting Record Numbers of Trap Houses in the UK

Foster said her cabin sits at the 5,200-foot level, where more than 100 inches of snow has fallen in just the last week. On Feb. 23, the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the San Bernardino Mountains, the first in more than three decades. The weather service initially forecast a snowfall of about five feet at elevations as low as 5,000 feet.

Trap houses serve as hubs for selling various drugs without any strict limitations. Commonly found within these locations are substances such as heroin, meth, cocaine, fentanyl, and prescription pills. The specific kinds of drugs available depend on the individual drug dealer running the operations in the trap house and the drugs they happen to possess at that time. This variety underscores how these places are flexible in catering to different types of illegal drugs. Trap houses are established to address two principal issues that entice addicts to create one or visit one—shelter and a constant supply of drugs.

The exact location of the dog could not be identified and the Wales Urban Search and Rescue team was requested to attend. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the dog was trapped under a "domestic dwelling". Firefighters had to remove patio slabs at the rear of the property and dig a tunnel to reach Jock, a three-year-old poodle.

Trap houses satisfy both requirements by offering a location where drug users may relax and purchase substances within arm’s reach. Because of this ease of access, individuals may begin binge-using substances, making them more or less ‘trapped’ in the house. Even if they leave for whatever reason, they will be enticed back to the convenience of the trap house.

Rap artists use this slang to evoke a sense of authenticity and gritty realism in their lyrics. Back in 2017, 2 Chainz transformed a house in Atlanta into a vibrant pink symbol of trap culture. While it eventually closed its doors, the pink trap house will forever hold a special place in trap history. Despite the challenges, some trap house residents find paths to redemption.

Trap houses meet both of these needs by offering a venue whereby users can kickback and buy drugs within an arm’s reach. Think about it…why would someone who is surrounded by everything he/she needs at the moment want to leave? Even if they leave for whatever reason, they’ll just be drawn back to the convenience of the trap house. The term “trap house” may have originated in the world of drugs, but over time it has taken on a broader meaning. Whether it’s the shady activities happening inside, the lifestyle it represents, or the memes it inspires, the trap house has become ingrained in our cultural lexicon. It’s just another reminder that language evolves and adapts with the times – even if the subject matter isn’t always the most savory.

Little House on the Prairie TV Series 1974 1983 Episode list

little house on the prairie season 1

The show continued for another 4 seasons and a spinoff often rebranded as season 9. Laura and her new friend, Andy Garvey, find an injured mother wolf trying to tend to her pack of cubs. He decides to move them to the Ingalls family barn when he learns farmer Jud Larabee wants to shoot them, believing that they are the ones responsible for killing several of his sheep. Things turn deadly when a pack of feral dogs advance on the barn, trapping Andy, Laura, Mary, Carrie, and Bandit inside, leaving them to rely on Jonathan, and even more so, Bandit and the mother wolf, to save them from being mauled. Reverend Alden gets badly hurt while on his way to collect donations for a struggling town in another part of his parish.

Season 4 Episode 18 “The Inheritance”

In reality, however, the southern Minnesota landscape where the show is supposed to take place includes no tall mountains. Mrs. Oleson finds an old Walnut Grove Bearer Bond and, claiming that she is owed over $14,000 in unpaid interest, uses it to have the town renamed Olesonville. However, when she wants her compliant husband elected as mayor, she encounters unexpected opposition from some of the town's oldest inhabitants. Almanzo grows more and more depressed after his stroke and refuses to perform his therapy, and even the birth of his daughter, Rose, doesn't help. Laura continues to clash with Eliza Jane, who wants them all to move to Minneapolis.

Episodes204

Mary becomes bitter over her predicament and having to rely on others for basic needs. Meanwhile, Charles, Jonathan Garvey, and the rest of the town of Walnut Grove have another problem as the whole township is threatened by an escalation of a dispute between The Grange and the railroads. This prevents crops and other items from being sold and traded, and disables the bank, causing financial problems for the entire town. At the end of the episode, Charles drives Mary to the blind school where she will spend the next few months. While at Nellie Oleson's birthday party, Nellie pushes Laura and hurts her ankle. This leads to Laura becoming friends with Olga Nordstrom (Kim Richards), a quiet friendly girl from her school who was born with a birth defect causing her left leg to be shorter than the other.

However, although she has feelings for Joe, he reminds her of her shiftless and unfaithful ex-husband, and she has plans to marry a successful local businessman. Joe starts doing odd jobs at the blind school, and he befriends and helps a blind boy called Timothy (Keith Mitchell) who has failed to respond to Hester-Sue. When she sees the change in Timothy, she calls off her wedding, and tells Joe there might be a chance for them yet. Former college football star Pete Ellerbee comes to Walnut Grove to coach the town's football team and to encourage his son in playing. Albert joins the team and is inspired by Ellerbee's stirring pep talks about teamwork, responsibility and doing your best.

Leslie Landon (Etta Plum)

The title of this episode is a reference to the 100-mile walk in the book On the Banks of Plum Creek (the fourth book in the Little House series). However, in the books it was locusts that ruined a crop and it led to the Ingalls moving on, unlike in the television series in which the Ingalls and the Wilder families stay in Walnut Grove through most of the series. Ketty Lester, 89, signed some of her CDs for fans and sang at a worship service at the reunion. Linwood Boomer, 68, created a very popular show based on his life, "Malcolm in the Middle." He is the founder and board chair of Healing California, a nonprofit that provides free medical, dental and vision care. He donated all money fans paid for autographs and photos to the charity. "I had a whole spiritual journey for maybe 20 years, I’ve worked in finance on Wall Street, lived in Manhattan for a long time," Gilbert, 56, says.

Another “Top Ten” episode for Melissa Gilbert, this episode is when Melissa (Laura) and Alison Arngrim (Nellie) began their friendship in real life, which continues to this day. The “Little House on the Prairie” television show is an adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s best-selling Little House books based on her own life. This TV legend began with the pilot in March of 1974, which introduced millions of viewers around the world to the Ingalls family.

Albert soon falls in love with a long-time friend called Michele Pierson, and Charles starts a cooperative with the local farmers in order to compete with the large farms. Finally, Albert, Laura, Michele, Miss Plum and the local school children make their annual climb to 'the keepsake tree' at the top of Harper's Bluff, where Laura and Albert place their own keepsake in the box hidden there. The movie ends with Miss Plum and the children joining hands in a circle around Laura and Albert, who join their own hands and raise them high, both in celebration and as a symbol of their bond. Mary, who has recently gone blind, is sent to a blind school in Iowa, where she meets Adam Kendall.

Season 1, Episode 19 – The Circus Man

little house on the prairie season 1

She goes to care for Almanzo and, with the matter of the 'other woman' cleared up, they make up. After Almanzo's recovery, Charles tells him and Laura they must wait one year [rather than two] before they marry. Meanwhile, under Percival's tutelage, Nellie learns to cook and be pleasant to her customers, and when he is about to leave she tells Percival she loves him. After her earlier insults, it is what Percival has been waiting for, and they marry the next day. A new family, the Carters (Stan Ivar as John, Pamela Roylance as Sarah, Lindsay Kennedy as older son Jeb, and David Friedman as younger son Jason), move into the Ingalls house. Meanwhile, Almanzo and Laura take in their niece, Jenny Wilder (played by Shannen Doherty), when Almanzo's brother dies and raise her alongside their daughter, Rose.

Almanzo refuses to accept this, and tells Laura he plans to leave Walnut Grove and asks her to defy her father and go with him, but she refuses. The Olesons hire Percival Dalton to improve the operation of Nellie's failing restaurant and hotel but, even when it is temporarily renamed "Caroline's Restaurant and Hotel", Nellie stubbornly refuses to learn. Only when Percival tells her she is pretty does she soften and start to cooperate.

Expanded episodes (90 minutes to 2 hours) have been indicated as such; many of these may not currently be shown in some rerun markets due to their length. This episode celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Walnut Grove. The historic town of Walnut Grove was surveyed in 1874 and officially incorporated in 1879.

Laura suggests she take a teaching position to help them earn money for a new farm, but Almanzo objects and postpones the wedding. They continue to argue, and eventually, Laura breaks their engagement. When Harriet Oleson’s niece Kate (Anne Archer, who played Michael Douglas’ wife in Fatal Attraction) comes to visit Walnut Grove, she and the much older Doc Baker fall in love fast. Ellin always found it interesting when the main characters leave the Grove for a trip to the big city where they are fish-out-of-water and do things like ride elevators. This episode sees Charles elected to represent the farmers of Hero Township at a Grange convention in Milwaukee.

Fun FactNellie Oleson originally had her hair carefully styled each day, however during Season 1 they had a wig custom ordered for her. This allowed her elaborate hair style to maintain it’s styling through long hours of shooting. It was, at the time, one of the most expensive wigs created for a TV show as it was constructed lock by lock to match her natural hair colors as much as possible. Melissa Sue Anderson had never lit a match in real life before acting in this episode as Mary Ingalls. This was the first large role for Mr. Kennedy, the hot-headed father of Christy and Sandy who got so angry. The scene with Mary and Pa in the barn when Mary confesses that Jasper bit Laura too was supposed to have cross cut images of Pa.

Outraged by his betrayal, Jonathan Garvey confronts Larabee in front of his family. A vengeful Larabee goes to the Garveys house with a shotgun, but Andy is the only one home and Larabee lashes out at him, accidentally injuring him. When Larabee leaves, Andy gets a lamp and begins looking for his mom and dad. When the Garveys return home, they find their barn in flames, and Larabee is fingered as the likely culprit. At his trial, there are several surprising developments, including Andy's confession about leaving the lamp by the barn on a windy night, which prompts the judge to throw out the barn burning charge. He still finds Larabee guilty of assault and instead of any additional jail time, he orders Larabee to recompense Jonathan for the value of his lost wheat crop.

Ask a child to draw a neighborhood, and they’ll likely offer an image of a squares with a triangles on top, not doodles of round houses. Though walls with right angles and pitched roofs may be the most common archetype when it comes to residences, circular homes are arguably more interesting, simply because of how unique they are. Round design stretches back centuries—think igloos, teepees, and yurts—and the designs of many historic cultures are often based on circular forms. Many of our home plans have photos from customers that show how the same design was built by different clients customized to fit individual needs, budgets, and building lots.
